Expertise, Artistry, & Attention to Detail

Amanda is a certified doula as well as a member of the International Association of Professional Birth Photographers. She has trained with dozens of perinatal and photographer organizations, including DONA, Evidence Based Birth®, Birthing From Within®, Birth Becomes YouICEA, Midwives College of Utah, and more.

Working with Amanda as a birth photographer means you have access to a decade's worth of prenatal, birth, and postpartum health experience when Amanda is present! While her primary goal is to document labor and birth as it unfolds, Amanda's clients consistently emphasize the personal touches and caring attention given between the action shots.

A Commitment to Reducing Birth Trauma

Amanda has been a dedicated doula and educator for over a decade, having worked with hundreds of expecting families in Southern California. Even with all that experience, birth still can surprise, delight, and awe. This is why Amanda continually seeks out opportunities to learn and skill-build in areas such as adult education, cultural humility, coping skills, accessibility in birth, comfort measures, communication in healthcare settings, patient advocacy, and more so that she may elevate the birthing and parenting experiences of anyone who wants to benefit from her presence as a professional birth photographer.

Heirloom Artwork to Honor Birth as a Rite of Passage

As a birth photographer, Amanda has the rare opportunity to highlight for each family just how unique and wondrous their experience of labor and birth is. The emotional journey, the physical experience, the connection between partners, and the arrival of a new baby are all worthy of documentation. Having photographic keepsakes of birth provides an opportunity for families to start or build upon their visual legacy, so that generations to come may know and hold dear the gift of familial imagery. It is Amanda's privilege to provide undeniable proof of the beauty, strength, and resilience of families of all makeups as they welcome an addition!

Birth Doula & Birth Photography
Testimonials

Amanda is amazing - I literally could not have had an unmedicated birth without Amanda's assistance.

When interviewing, we were very cautious...as the baby that Amanda assisted with is our first born. My husband and I couldn't ask a question that Amanda didn't have an answer for, which was quite reassuring. As it turns out, her breadth of knowledge is much more extensive than she shared during our interview. Amanda knows so much about the birthing process and babies. After retaining Amanda's services, she shared so many great tips and tricks that we hadn't even thought of.

When Amanda arrived, she instantly soothed me, as she was calm, relaxed, and encouraging. I felt empowered. She shared pain management techniques that got me through the thick of it. Our plan was to labor at home as long as possible, and Amanda knew just when to head to the hospital. During the birthing process, Amanda was everywhere: comforting me, giving me instructions, sharing our birth plan with the staff, snapping photos.... She did everything for us. She is even a lactation specialist and helped with that aspect - at the hospital and at our postpartum visit! I'd love to have her assist with our next little bundle of joy - she truly is amazing.

Amanda is freaking amazing. She is exceptionally knowledgeable and experienced. But even more important for me, she is approachable, casual, and personable. Even now that our son is 6 months old, I still text her with random questions if things come up (ex. how do I know if the bottle is the right temperature? Should his poop smell like this? How do I use this baby carrier?).

Amanda was absolutely invaluable during our home birth. She arrived up at 3pm, about 5 hours before we called the midwife. Basically, she was just a sane person to guide us through the stages and help us get our minds in the right place. She talked with my wife and kept the mood positive and calm. She helped us know when it was time to call the midwife. Once the midwife arrived, she became an extra pair of hands to fill the tub, keep people hydrated, bring more towels, whatever. Our son was born at 1am and Amanda stayed another couple hours after that just making sure we were all settled in.

If you're interviewing, add Amanda to your list. She is an expert in all ways. I was, and continue to be, impressed with her knowledge and advice for mothers-to-be and new moms. She helped shine lights on unknown parts of the birth process for my wife and me. I could not imagine a better birthing experience. She was super supportive and helped me feel a part of the process as well. She is dedicated to her clients above and beyond expectations. Amanda is head and shoulders above the rest.

I cannot express how much Amanda meant to us throughout the whole pregnancy & birth! She was such an asset in navigating a high risk pregnancy & difficult birth. I'll start off from the beginning, throughout my pregnancy my husband & I took classes with Amanda. They were so informative and she really took care & patience when answering all our questions. No question was too small to answer!

She was also there helping & informing us along the way as we had to navigate my high risk pregnancy. With the information she provided in classes & also in texts or calls along the way I felt empowered to make every decision. I also felt very empowered and knowledgeable as we made tough decisions throughout the whole birth.

She was such a calming presence during birth. With everything happening so quickly around you, it's nice to have someone there with you, looking you in the eyes and encouraging you. My husband sang her praises too! He felt empowered through her classes & her answering our questions. It was so helpful to him to have her during birth too!

She is also an incredible photographer! She captured the most beautiful moments during birth. Moments that we will now have captured forever! Again in birth everything moved at a monumental speed, it's hard to digest everything. But seeing the photographs afterwards brought back every moment, even some I missed! There is nothing sweeter than seeing our baby's first moments here on Earth. They are priceless!

                ~Leah, Orange

We're so grateful Amanda was available as a backup when our birth photographer got sick. She seemed to fit into our home birth effortlessly and worked with our midwife well. We had really hoped to document the entire birth from start to finish, but ended up having a quick birth. Even still, Amanda came to us fast and was able to get a bunch of cool pictures, including of my partner catching the baby. Even when taking photos, she has a way of being present with emotional support and words of love.

We didn't hire a doula, but can see now her approach is great. My wife and I especially appreciated that Amanda didn't require a release, so we can keep our photos private. We loved her and would highly recommend to any others who want support with incredible images at the end!
